The Mission

Do you ever stop to appreciate fresh cold water? For millions of people around the globe, just getting a fresh drink of water is a daily struggle.

The blessings bestowed on Parkway Community Church are channeled each year into the annual “Mission to Malawi” which provides a single, hand-pumped well at the entrance to a local house of worship.

Souls, as well as thirsts, are quenched after the week long process of siting, drilling and installing the community wells. 2010 marks the third year of Parkway’s participation in this soul quenching mission. Want to be a part of it? Come join us!

Parkway Community Church held its annual Ladies Appreciation Dinner on May 4, 2010. The dinner is cooked and served by the men of the church and the ladies are treated to fine dining and top-notch entertainment (ok, so it’s amateur hour put on by the men, at least they looked good in their white shirts and bow ties).

Special ladies deserve a special evening….

Good food, laughter, fellowship…

Florida Blessings

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

As I write this “sermonette” for the web page I want to give you an account of my recent trip to Florida for vacation. My family tries to get together around thanksgiving time and this year we went to my sister and brother-in-law’s home in Bradenton. My other sister from Wichita, Kansas also came down. I only see my sister on the average of once a year so this was a tremendous blessing. But also being in Florida for only twice in my life and never in the Tamp-Bradenton area I was given the guided tour. We went on a boat for two hours on Tampa Bay to see the dolphins. I didn’t see any but my sisters did. We did see 3 manatees swimming around and that was really enjoyable. Nature was wonderful from the birds diving in the water for food, “gators” sunning themselves on the golf courses and having to stop in the area that you live for turtle crossings. None of this is usual here in Maryland. I also tried to play 18 holes of golf and played bad but enjoyed it immensely.

Now I give you all this information to tell you that although I enjoyed all the things above that was not my highlight of my trip. The highlight was I was able to see some friends who have been part of my life for 54 years. I am 59 years of age so this couple has known me for all but 5 years of my life. When I was 5-years-old my family moved to Buda, Illinois as my dad accepted the opportunity to pastor the Bunker Hill Church of God. This family again became a big part of my life. I was happy but also sad. Happy to renew acquaintances but sad because there have been years that I have neglected this couple. Not angry or upset but just going on in a different direction in my life and not taking the time to fit them into it.

In John 15:13-14 we read: “Greater love has no one than this that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.” As great as this couple has been friends in my family’s life it is even a greater blessing to know that we can be friends of Jesus Christ. When we ask Him into our lives he is not only our savior but our friend. But I wonder how long we have neglected this friendship. To the couple in Florida I have called or written in years. I have not bothered to pick up the phone to call them to see how they are doing. Yet I am so blessed that they still consider me a friend. God loves us but wants to hear from us. God loves us and wants to walk with us. God loves us and to be a part of all the things that are going on in our life. As great as our friendships are in this life the greatest words we shall ever hear is “well done thy great and faithful servant” or as John puts it, “well done thy great and faithful friend.” Make Him a daily part of your life.

I hope you go and grow in the power of Jesus.

May you know the God of all peace and all power.

In Christ
Dr. Howard L. Ruley
